What to Expect at Your First Appointment

During your first visit at Sports & Spinal Injury Clinic, LLC you will have:

  • A consultation with the Dr. Matt Huettl or Dr. James Pizzadili about what health issues are concerning you
  • A thorough chiropractic, neurological, and orthopedic examination to help locate the cause of the problem
  • Possible x-rays (only if clinically indicated) to provide more information about your condition
  • A report of our findings based on that initial evaluation, and a plan for treatment
  • If time allows and additional diagnostic tests are not necessary, we will begin your treatment right away!

During your subsequent visits we will review how you are responding and fine tune your treatment so that it is tailored perfectly to meet your specific needs.

Patient Forms

Below you will find our new patient forms. Feel free to print and complete the forms before your first visit with us. Please note that it looks like a lot of paperwork, however most of it is reading and signatures. While we do not require that you complete this paperwork prior to visiting our practice, this will save you and our staff time when you come in for your appointment. If you do not have your paperwork filled out prior to your appointment, you will need to show 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to fill them out so that it doesn’t take up your time with the Doctor. When filling out your paperwork please do not leave any blank lines. Any lines that do not pertain to you need to have “none” or “NA” on them. Please note, N/A is not an appropriate answer to: Have you ever had any surgery? Or are you on any medications? For questions like that, list what it asks, or write “none” if that is the correct answer. N/A would apply to the question: Are you pregnant, only if you are a male or a female who has had a hysterectomy. If your paperwork is completely filled out, please show 10 minutes prior to your appointment for your vitals to be taken.

We will do everything we can to work with you to help you find your maximum insurance coverage. If you are unsure how your insurance works, or if you have questions about your chiropractic coverage, just call us and we will do our best to help you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is most often used to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including, but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms and legs, and headaches. Chiropractors are primary care, “portal of entry” physicians and have broad diagnostic skills. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose and treat most musculoskeletal injuries with manipulation, therapeutic, and rehabilitative exercises. They also provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle counseling. Chiropractors also refer patients for advanced diagnostic procedures such as MRIs, bone scans, or lab work. They can refer to other experts such as surgeons or neurologists when appropriate.

What does a Chiropractor do?

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by chiropractors is known as spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment. The purpose of the adjustment is to restore joint mobility, neural integrity, and circulation in the region of the joint, as well as improve both joint and soft tissue flexibility. Chiropractors also utilize other therapeutic procedures, including massage, exercise, stretches, traction, nutrition, therapeutic ultrasound, and muscle stimulation.

How Does Chiropractic Care Work?

Injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that cause inflammation, pain, and diminished body functions. The chiropractic adjustment restores joint and soft tissue mobility, relieves pain and muscle tightness, improves neural integrity to the joint and the organ the nerve supplies, and allows for tissue healing. Due to the relationship of the spine and the nervous system, the chiropractic adjustment, along with lifestyle modification and nutritional therapy, can affect other conditions not musculoskeletal in origin. Examples of this include reflux or constipation.

Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Hurt?

Typically, an adjustment does not hurt, but feels good. Occasionally, you may experience some stiffness and soreness much like the day after you start a new exercise program. Apply ice to the sore area to relieve discomfort on those rare occasions.

What is a Subluxation?

A subluxation is a misalignment in the spine that irritates the surrounding nerves. This can cause a range of symptoms from headaches and back pain to numbness in your extremities. If your subluxation is recent, it may be fixed in a few sessions. However, the longer you have been living with a subluxation, the longer it takes to properly correct it. Subluxations can be caused by any kind of stress, whether it’s physical like falls and accidents, chemical like allergies or toxins, or emotional like work stress, family issues, or self-sabotage habits and behaviors.
